Finding My First Job
Although it's only been a few short years ago, it seems as if it has been a lifetime since I went out and got my first job. I was fresh out of high school, ready to take on the world and thinking that I was able to accomplish almost anything that I put my mind to. As it turns out, I did have a little bit more growing up to do than what I thought and perhaps I'm still on my way to growing up properly. At the time, however, the only thing that was on my mind was the freedom that I thought came with having a job.
I started out fresh on the job market several years before the economic troubles really hit home. It was not difficult for me to find a job at all, and as a matter of fact I simply walked in and filled out an application and was hired right on the spot. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and I have no plans of going to college in order to figure that out. It was my plan to go out on to the workforce and to make it up as I want along. By the way, that is still something that I am trying to do today.
My first job was in the construction industry, and it was a little bit different than what I had never considered that I would be doing. I was working in a modular home factory, making sure that the walls looked perfect at the end of the line. It was hot work in the summer and cold work in the winter and it times I was unprepared for exactly how uncomfortable I was going to be through the day. After several months of working like this, sitting in a classroom in an air-conditioned environment did not seem like all that bad of an idea.
I stuck it out, however, and managed to work my way up until I was the foreman over one of the smaller areas and the factory. This really changed things for me, and it may have grown me up to a certain extent because I needed to be strong enough to deal with people that many times, were several times my age. The support that I got from others who were in my position was less than stellar, but it was still an experience that I am able to rely on today.
Since that time, and over the past several years my career has really evolved into something entirely different. I decided that entrepreneurship was something that really appealed to me, and it seems as if I have a least a little bit of an intuition as far as that is concerned. I have had several businesses in several years, some of which I still work on a part-time basis and others that I have left after they were unsuccessful for me. Although I am still unsure of exactly what I am going to do with my life, I feel that I am in the area that is for me.
There is little doubt that working for yourself (running your own business) should be the way to go these days and that begs the question of whether or not you need a college education. The public school system these days is in crisis, which is why more and more parents are looking at home schooling requirements and thinking about opting out. And, as far as college is concerned college financing is not cheap unless you are able to get your hands on some free money like the college scholarships for women which some government organizations and companies are now making available. For me however I would prefer to control my own destiny and would look at something like finding the best day trading system available and taking the time to learn forex trading so that I could make money from the comfort of my own home and to my own timetable. You have to know what you are doing of course if you do not want to end up in personal bankruptcy but the rewards are enormous if you do get it right. My own trading has allowed me just within the past few days to buy a pair of state of the art waterproof hiking boots and to choose from a range of Club Car golf carts and golf cart lift kits, including some fabulous EZ GO lift kits to fit out my new golf cart.
If trading currencies does not appeal to you then do not worry because there are a thousand and one things you could do instead. For example, I have a friend who is extremely interested in all aspects of health and loves researching health issues for other people, who are often willing to pay handsomely for his time. Recently he has researched the sleeve gastrectomy, curing a tension headache, bedwetting alarms, herbal alternative medicine and diabetes treatment.
But, even if this is not your thing it does not matter. Just pick a subject, or series of subjects, that interest you and use this as the basis for building your business. Write a guide to wine tasting for example. It might sound crazy but you will be surprised at the huge range of things for which there is a demand.
